BS Bokujou Monogatari (「ＢＳ牧場物語」) is a Downloadable 4-part Soundlink game for the Satellaview that was broadcast in at least 2 runs between September 2, 1996 and November 30, 1996. The game is a life-simulation game and it comes as a pseudo-sequel to the earlier-broadcast (July 1996)/retail release Bokujou Monogatari (「牧場物語」), commonly known internationally as "Harvest Moon"; this has given the series the fan-nickname "BS Harvest Moon" as a result. Together with the game (typically immediately before and after), 10-minute broadcasts of a related nature were released entitled BS Bokujou Monogatari Torisetsu (a digital instruction manual) and Bokujou Monogatari no Kekka (a score/results program).
The game may be found listed under the name "BS Makiba Monogatari" at fan sites.
Gameplay[edit | edit source]
The Plot and gameplay of BS Bokujou Monogatari is substantially similar to the original Bokujou Monogatari that was first released in July 21, 1996 for the Satellaview. A hardware version of the game was released for the Super Famicom on August 9, 1996. The game was then localized for the Super Nintendo as Harvest Moon in June of 1997.
The game falls into the life simulator genre and the basic goal of the game is to organize your time in the completion of a variety of tasks (farm-related, family-related, personal, etc.) in order to achieve the best possible outcome at the end. Farm-related tasks from the original Bokujou Monogatari include such activities as crop-growth, care of livestock, and maintenance of farm infrastructure. Family-related tasks include the courting of and marriage to a spouse, and personal tasks include unwinding at the town bar in the evenings.
A number of differences exist between BS Bokujou Monogatari and Bokujou Monogatari/Harvest Moon, however. In BS Bokujou Monogatari, the player starts with a slightly pre-formed set of farmland that cannot be exited from (to go to the bar in town, for example). The game is set in the summer season, and the player begins with some pre-plowed land, a gold hammer, a gold axe, a watering can and a seemingly infinite supply of tomato and corn seeds. Unlike Bokujou Monogatari, there is no livestock, no use for the money earned, and no possibility of starting a family by wooing a future spouse.
As time progresses in the game, pre-set events occur. Such events include rain-storms and season changes.
